The activity includes the following:

  • a training handbook/guide which serves as a training resource for the target groups. The name of the result is the "Sustainability Tourism Canvas Guide". It contains a section on the end users (tourists) and how they can be trained to become sustainable travelers but also, promote the European Green Deal, identity and values.
  • 1 online event where the sustainability canva training guide were presented and discussed with experts i.e. tour companies, adult training providers, SMEs in the field and area in each partner country.
Download the STAR Canvas and the Sustainability Tourism Canvas Guide (EN, EL, ES, IS, RO) and use it with your own trainees, or in your organization with your staff.

The aim of the activity was to design and develop a game app for tourists which is partly based on the canvas model content of Activity 1, as well as information and knowledge which will train adults to become sustainable travelers. The game app is available in English, Greek, Spanish and Romanian and contains the following:

  • general information on sustainable tourism and definitions of a sustainable traveler;
  • game on learning how to become a sustainable traveler;
  • point based scoring;
  • location based information for the adults to interact with their environment and learn about their locality, people, food, culture and why this is important;
  • interaction features with the locals - i.e. game featuring challenges with an ultimate objective to learn and interact with other nationalities and learn from them;
  • extra features and points when learning and playing for European Citizenship-Identity information etc.

Technical conditions of the STAR app

Following the development of the canvas, training guide and the game app, the partners designed a generic sustainability walking tour incorporating the training the staff received, the action plans of the canvas and the use of the game app with final end users. The designed tour is a blend of sustainability and green skills information provision, a presentation of how sustainable tourism is practically implemented within a location integrating its fundamental pillars (interaction with locals, culture and heritage, use of facilities, infrastructure and materials, economy, etc.) thus, promoting the main objective of the project sustainable tourism through digital transformation. In addition, the tour will become a regular tourism service provision provided by the partner companies to schools, general adult population, and adult trainers for free until the end of the project.

The eight presentation events were organized by all the partners. The first four events were organized when the first version of the game app was developed and it was presented in the events together with the training guide and canvas for the development of the action plans. The last four events were organized before the end of the project to present all project results together with the tour that was elaborated and tested with the members of the target group. The partners organized the events based on the methodology and structure containing information on how to organize the events, the profile of the people to be invited, the topics for discussion and presentation and the input needed from them in order to reach the project objectives.

The aim of this activity is to design and develop a report containing future trends and policy suggestions in adult education for sustainable tourism, SMEs in the sector and skill sets needed. This report aims to encourage policymakers to assist tourism organisations, start-ups, adult training providers and entrepreneurs in the tourism sector and introduce them to the results of the project giving them ideas on how to encourage and support them. The designed report is a practical handbook which contains information and training issues collected throughout the project's duration with input from the stakeholders that were involved in the activities and project events. It can be used by adult trainers, VET trainers and tourism entrepreneurs, and other VET/tourism stakeholders.
