Tourism in Harghita County
Romania

Asociatia de Dezvoltare Intercomunitară Harghita (ADI Harghita) was founded in 2009 at the initiative of the Harghita County Council and it is operating with the support of 50 local administrations with the aim to create and maintain long-term cooperation with the county’s local administrations and organizations working in the field of tourism, carrying out national and international projects, the purpose of which is to improve tourism, as well as maintain culture and the environment. At the same time, the association’s goal is also to protect the environment, popularize the county’s tourism, as well as launching services pertaining to the development of these.

The main activity of the organization is development and popularization of tourism in Harghita County. The organization is charged with the management, maintenance and popularization of the Visit Harghita app and website. This is the only platform that answers all questions a tourist has to know before visiting the county.

The association has made a significant contribution to the preparation of the tourism strategy of the county and is responsible for its implementation. ADI Harghita facilitates access to development possibilities for tourism operators and improves the institutional framework of the sector. The organization interacts with individual stakeholders - hotels, restaurants, travel companies, decision makers and other businesses in order to attract more tourists. The association organizes conferences and participates at fairs and exhibits to strengthen the cooperation between different tourism actors and helps them to promote their services more efficiently and to provide better quality tourist offers.

ADI Harghita promotes training opportunities (communication, marketing etc.) for local SME’s to acquire the knowledge of using different tools to attract new customers and offer new and quality services. The team creates publications, contributes to thematic projects (e. g. Mary’s Way), promotes religious and cultural tourism and develops programs and projects in the field of sustainable tourism.

In 2018 the activities of the association were extended with the implementation of EU projects (Europe for Citizens, Erasmus+, COSME etc.).
